Court Finned Naira Marley For Travelling During Lockdown

Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley has been fined for flouting regulations intended to slow down the spread of COVID-19.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty on Thursday to a one-count charge of breach of cessation of movement and interstates travel order made by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The singer was arraigned at the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court, Oshodi around 3:30 pm.

He appeared along with his manager, Seyi Awouga, according to a statement released by Lagos Police spokesman, Bala Elkana.

The two accused persons pleaded guilty to the charge and were awarded a fine of one N100,000 each by the magistrate.

The letter read in part: “So, on Saturday morning, 13th June 2020, my staff called me that they have a charter flight to Abuja, and that the passengers are already in the lounge. As a rule, passenger manifests are always sent to me before departure.

“When I went through the manifest and saw FASHOLA BABATUNDE, I thought it was the Honourable Minister of Works going to Abuja with his men. So, we decided to do the flight since he is a serving minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I didn’t know that it was a bunch of useless people.”

However, Naira Marley says he won’t be using the airline anymore, adding that for the fact that “the Almighty has blessed you, shouldn’t make u look down on anyone”.

“Do u know that over 20,000 Marlians travel with executive jet a month. We won’t be using ur useless airline again for calling us useless. Thank God we didn’t crash on that flight sha because we nearly did. BTW We didn’t book the flight ourselves,” he tweeted.

In another tweet, he said: “In The cost of living working-class/middle-class is too high. The fact that the Almighty has blessed you, shouldn’t make u look down on anyone! Mr executive jet calling us useless is not only defamation but oppressive. The statement by the CEO is arrogant and silly.”
